Tp Alex: post deleted

Sorry, but we don't allow unrelated links in posts.

By the way, did you know that the growth hormone you sell doesn't promote your growth. You even lose weight! What an utterly misleading name for a product.

And also, a sound drive isn't hardware. Sound drives don't even exists. So you can't have a problem with it.

Lenovo customer support

Do people know much about Lenovo customer support? Is it very good?

Reply 1 : Lenovo customer support

It's really good, at least to me. I never had big issues with my Thinkpads (starting from A21). But minor issues such as not-functioning-well DVDrom were handled quickly (within a day), and the replacement part arrived within two days.

Reply 2 : Lenovo customer support

Hit or miss. I've called for support a total of 5 times and all experiences were slightly different. In general, Lenovo is one of the top companies when it comes Customer Service.

Reply 3 : Lenovo customer support

Hit or miss, as has been mentioned.

Ive had bad and Ive had good experience, and in my case its only one service center in whole country and the same people that Ive dealt with.

So it has more to do with what Lenovo has authorized IBM to cover under warranty and how to deal with warranty claims.

Reply 4 : Lenovo customer support

I have used Dell, Alienware, HP, Apple, and Lenovo.

Lenovo has the best support by far. The technicians are always knowledgeable and are almots always really friendly.

I had an issue with my machine and my ThinkPad was shipped to Lenovo, fixed, and recieved all within three days.

A+ in my opinion.

Build Help.

Hello, i'm currently trying to purchase a good quality gaming computer. I'm hoping this computer can play games at max to high settings for a good year or two. I started with the Nvidia 600$ gaming computer build at Cyberpower, ( http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Gamer_Xtreme_1000/ ) and have upgraded it a bit, My budget is around 800. Can't go to much higher then that with taxes.

Here is the build,

Case: * Raidmax Blade Mid-Tower Gaming Case w/ Side-Panel Window
Extra Case Fan Upgrade: Maximum 120MM Case Cooling Fans for your selected case
CPU: Intel Core? i5-2500 3.30 GHz 6M Intel Smart Cache LGA1155
Venom Boost Fast And Efficient Factory Overclocking: No Overclocking
Cooling Fan: XtremeGear Liquid Cooling System 120MM Radiator & Fan (Enhanced Cooling Performance + Extreme Silent at 20dBA) (Dual Standard 120MM Fans (Push-Pull) [+9])
Motherboard: MSI H61M-P23 Intel H61 Chipset DDR3 mATX Mainboard w/ 7.1 HD Audio, GbLAN, SATA-II, 1 Gen2 PCIe & 3 PCIe X1 [B3 Stepping]
Memory: 4GB (2GBx2) DDR3/1333MHz Dual Channel Memory (Corsair or Major Brand)
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti 1GB 16X PCIe Video Card (Major Brand Powered by NVIDIA)
Multiple Video Card Settings: Non-SLI/Non-CrossFireX Mode Supports Multiple Monitors
Power Supply Upgrade: 700 Watts - XtremeGear SLI/CrossFireX Ready Power Supply
Hard Drive: 1TB SATA-II 3.0Gb/s 16MB Cache 7200RPM HDD (Single Hard Drive)
Optical Drive: 24X Double Layer Dual Format DVD+-R/+-RW + CD-R/RW Drive (BLACK COLOR)
Sound: HIGH DEFINITION ON-BOARD 7.1 AUDIO

Now this build is around 850 atm, and i cant go much higher, i also had a few questions,

Hows the graphics card?

I upgraded from a 550Ti due to many people saying the 460 was better, so its either NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 1GB 16X PCIe Video Card which is about 80bux cheaper or keep NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti 1GB 16X PCIe Video Card. If it aint worth it, it would be nice to go with the 460. Also, should i pay for the extra over clocking? It would raise the price quite a bit to over clock to 10% or more, is it worth it? Does it lower the life time overall of the computer? Anything else is greatly appreciated, but please keep in mind my budget and that i have no experience building a computer in any way, so it is very much out of the question to build my own.

Thank you.

Reply 1 : Build Help.

Also, thier is a option for EVGA Superclocked on the 560 for 18 dollars more, what does it mean and is it worth it?

Also, the 460 has this upgrade, -Palit Sonic Platinum 800MHz Core Powered by NVIDIA, for 20 dollars more,

Aftermarket Pedestal for UN46B8500?

This is a preview of your post.
Pedestals for UN46B8500 LED TV

Hi All,

We just bought a new TV armoire for the living room only to find that the TV cabinet is too shallow (8.875") for the pedestal base (10.5"). Does anyone know if there are any aftermarket pedestals that will fit this model (UN46B8500)?

We really don't want to have to cut a hole in the back of the unit to wall mount it if we don't have to...

Thanks,
Mike

Internal Crack on my TV panel

We've been using our new 50" Samsung plasma TV for 5 weeks, all of the sudden while we're watching TV a loud noise comes out of it and a line starts appearing on the screen. It turned out to be a crack on the panel, but in the inside. The TV is not even mounted, we didn't touch it, didn't do anything to it and it's been sitting there for 5 weeks. A Tech sent by Samsung looked at it and specify to Samsung that there was no external damage, not a a scratch... NOTHING, still they refuse cover the TV becaused they say we damaged the TV.... HOW????? BY WATCHING TV???? I've also seen a few posts on different websites about this, has anybody been successful on getting the TV fixed? this is unacceptable.

Reply 1 : Internal Crack on my TV panel

misuarez,

If you happen to have a transaction number available, I may be able to forward this to our Executive Customer Resolution Department. That number would start with 4001xxxxx, or 2001xxxxx or a number in that kind of format.

--HDTech

Reply 2 : Internal Crack on my TV panel

The transaction # is 3000219557. I have already been in contact with the "Executive" line and they stated the same: "Samsung does not cover physical damage", which is unacceptable as I was just WATCHING TV, I've had the TV working for 5 weeks only and nobody touched the TV, and all they wanted was a picture and that's how they can tell there was physical damage? when there are no scratches, no external damage, nothing, so basically I am being called a liar.

I would appreciate anything you can do to help, I have seen the same case online for other people.

Reply 3 : Internal Crack on my TV panel

I received a message from a case manager stating that my TV won't be covered because of physical damage, which is impossible because my wife was WATCHING the TV when it happened; we would not go through this trouble if we had broken the TV, it's a matter of principles.

I called today and was informed that the case manager would call me but I received not such call. I have explained my case and Samsung has provided no explanation or proof the we actually damage the TV; I am 100% sure we did not cause physical damage to the TV, and I'm also not a liar.

I have filed complaints with:

- Federal Trade Commission (#22746254)
- Better Business Bureau
- Office of the Florida Attorney General
- Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services
- 3 different media outlets

I have posted reviews on Amazon, CNET, Facebook and will continue to do so and explain my situation on every site I can.

We DID NOT cause physical damage to the TV and only ask for fair treatment. I hope they can reconsider the decision.

Reply 4 : Internal Crack on my TV panel

misuarez,

You posted your original complaint two weeks ago on April-30, and I responded back immediately with an offer to assist. The first I heard back was on the May-14 updating me, followed by another post with noting you've taken action.

I didn't even have a chance to inquire. I had less than an hour between your posts. I didn't call you a liar. I offered to help.

I have forwarded your case number up for a review.

--HDTech

Reply 5 : Internal Crack on my TV panel

I didn't mean that you called me a liar... I was talking about the response I received from Samsung Customer Service as I explained on my past post, which has nothing to do with this forum, I was talking about my overall experience.

Reply 6 : Internal Crack on my TV panel

misuarez,

I appreciate that.

I felt it was only right to follow up, because I was hoping to get a better result. I did send it back up, but if it was denied, it may very well stand that way - I wish I had more influence, but it's ultimately up to them. I did try, however, to see what I could do, so maybe Monday or Tuesday, you might call back to see if the decision was changed. It could go either way, but I want you to know that I did to the best I could, regardless of what happens.

Reply 7 : Internal Crack on my TV panel

I appreciate your effort; however, I have discovered that I'm not alone, I found more than 20 people with the same issues (only the ones that have posted comment, I'm sure there are more reading), so I'm confident it's a product defect since I did not do anything to the TV. I also have the BBB complaint # for somebody else with the exact same issue, I have his name, phone # and order #4003281208. I don't understand why I'm getting such a bad service. Samsung has resolved the problem for this person, so I expect the same. Thanks.

Had my Sammy for 6 mo. This is a second Samsung I've purchased and up until this point have been very happy with them. I bought this LED from Amazon so going back to the store is out of the question and now I had to deal with Samsung customer relations department. As other participants of the forum mentioned, Samsung will refuse to repair or exchange your tv claiming it is a physical damage even though my tv does not even have a single scratch on the outside. First I contacted customer support but then I called executive relations hoping to have them replace the tv but to no avail. I will file a complain as others have suggested.
My transaction # is 2012052013

Reply 11 : Internal Crack on my TV panel

I am in the exact same condition as the other post. I have a 50 inch samsung television, not mounted sitting where it has been for months, i have only had it about 10 months all of a sudden, i hear a loud noise, and the tv fades to black. I called samsung they sent someone out, the guy says you should be fine, we see no physical damage, i call samsung to follow up, and they say you have a cracked panel and there is nothing we can do, i talked with the executive relations department they said the same thing. My transaction # is 4005571021, my model # is PN50A460S4DXZA. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and that # is 8814127. Please help me

Tiffany Powell,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble.

I've send your case up to be reviewed. I won't be contacting you on this, but if they're able to make some progress, they may be contacting you. I just don't work in that department, so I'm not a part of the decision making. If I do hear something, I'll report back.

Reply 13 : Internal Crack on my TV panel

Samsung has agreed to replace my tv with the current model, hopefully this one doesn't do the same. I hope everyone else gets through, but like most have said, file a complaint with the BBB it seems to work. Also, they have a twitter account, I tweeted how upset I was and someone found it, it was kind of weird but very helpful the person wasn't following me on anything (that's twitter talk, for those who don't know what i'm talking about). Stay on top of it, and good luck to everyone, and thank you all for helping me as well.

I just had same problem with Panasonic plasma. Internal crack while watching. No phsical damage.

Hi Tiffany! Do you happen to have a picture of the cracked screen that got replaced? Of course Samsung is diagnosing my tv with physical damage when there was no physical damage, and I want to compare my screen with one that got covered.

Same issue, I have a 52 inch 750 Samsung cost me a huge $2,500 with extended warranty, and was well worth it until this happened!

I was watching TV it was sitting there on its stand perfectly fine then loud noise it shut off. When I turned it on there was a spiral crack that has progressively gotten worse with out me touching it! Someone came out and checked it and told me even though it shows no damage to the exterior that samsung will not cover it under warranty because they say that somehow the customer must of caused the damage? He seemed to think it was just as ridiculous as I did and he works with these things!

So someone has to tell me how did I and all of us for that matter cause internal damage to our samsung tvs without so much as a scratch on the exterior. The answer is easy: WE DIDN'T!!!

Sorry Samsung but when someone breaks thier leg there is always bruising on thier skin, and when a tv/monitor's internal panel gets damaged from the exterior there would be some evidence of that also!!

Please anyone and everyone who is ready to take action over these injustices please contact me dchester.satellitefusion@gmail.com my name is Derrick join up with me or if there is already a class action or larger group fighting this let me know so I may join. I will be reporting to the BBB and anyother agency that may help!!

The funny things is I run my own communications company and was looking into adding Samsung to my arsenal, but after this i do not want my customers having to deal with BS manufactures warranty from samsung!

Reply 17 : Internal Crack on my TV panel

I have had the same exact problem, tv is only 6 months old, we were just watching it, and the lines started to appear, and then the crack. We did not physically damage the tv, only watch it about 15 hours a week Samsung is stating that we physically damaged the tv, there are no external cracks, or not even one scratch on tv. Tv was never damaged, dropped etc Please advise if you found a solution or do I also need to file a complaint - I am awaiting a response from the executive team now.

Reply 18 : Internal Crack on my TV panel

You need to file formal complaints with the Better Business Bureau, Attorney General: New Jersey, Dept of Consumer Affairs, and Federal Trade Commission.

You will find sites online to help you do that.

I started with Samsung and was told a local company would come and look at TV. They never bothered to come. My TV had no external physical damage. The manufacture's defect of not allowing enough expansion room for the rear glass to expand due to heat resulted in it fracturing. Refer to "Thermal Expansion" in your complaint forms. It is a well know defect with Samsung Plasma televisions and there is a formal action taken on it whereby Samsung is being forced to make appropriate repairs. You will find reference to that in this thread.

Samsung would not replace my tv until they heard from one of the agencies listed above. Then they called, stepped up to the plate, and did the right thing and replaced my tv within a week. The delivery people were great. I haven't budged that TV since they set it on the cabinet. Picture is perfect.

Good Luck. Keep us updated.

Reply 19 : Internal Crack on my TV panel

Thank you for your replay. I have spoken to executive as well as management at Samsung, and they are all stating the same thing. That I have physically damaged my tv to which there is not one crack or scratch on. The tv was never damaged, and my husband who is an electrical engineer, stated that it is quite obvious that it is an internal crack in the screen. Today, they advised me to contact the repair firm they use, because they stated that he told them the damage was physical. When contacting the shop, he stated that he submitted the photos to samsung, and samsung is the one who determines that the damage is physical to my tv. I feel like I am getting the run around and I believe you are correct, I will have to take your advise and follow complaints. Should I also file a smalls claims complaint in the State where I live (which is Delaware County, PA). My husband thinks that we should also sue the repair shop for false misrepresentation, as the repairman never even looked at the tv, just turned it on and took a photo. I also contacted someone from this site, who advised that she would give my name to the attorney who is filing a lawsuit. I will keep you posted, and thanks again

Reply 20 : Internal Crack on my TV panel

Hi Music Lady! Do you happen to still have a picture of your cracked screen that I can compare mine to? Of course Samsung is claiming physical damage when there wasn't any, and I want to see a picture of a screen that they end up covering.

Thanks ever so much!

Hi:

I have internal cracks developing in the bezel for which I contacted the retailer from which i bought it(Brandsmart) and the technician mentioned to me that it can be handled by Samsung and not by them. He was aware that this kind of defect happens and he even found this even online.
My Samsung factory warranty has been expired and I am not sure how to address this. If they don't provide a solution them I might have to go the legal way as no one is taking accountability as of now.

This is been a BIG pain to follow up with 1800-SAMSUNG. They keep setting me up with a company called LAKES ELECTRONICS and these guys were very unprofessional last time so they requested tht they will not be able to do it (ideally Samsung should dictate to them what to do) and after follow up calls for over a week I have no update where we stand.

Hello I like most of the people here got a samsung plasma tv aug 10,2008 and warranty expired already. about 2 weeks ago our tv made a weird sound and then a pop sound and was turned off then noticed a crack located inside of the tv. i've called samsung twice but all they say is since my warranty is expired they cant do anything for use but give us a technician around our area that will charge to come look at it! this is obviously a product issue!! nothing we caused!! i have complained to the BBB my complaint number is 9934262 my document number is 0810-521-5497 i guess this is like a transaction number from American where we purchased this at!

Reply 27 : Internal Crack on my TV panel

judyes_07

If you read through the various posts you will see that several people, who's warranty had expired, were able to "convince" Samsung the internal cracking of their HDTV was due to 'thermal expansion', not abuse by the owner. In one post you can read where an owner had his cracked TV replaced by Samsung under warranty, only to see the new replacement unit crack internally, 5 days later.

In addition to the BBB, you may want to file complaints with the New Jersey Attorney General and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. Check the posts on page 6-7 of this thread for links to these Governmental agencies.

Also suggest you call Samsung again and ask to speak with someone in the Office Of The President. In a polite but firm mannor give them your story and tell them that, from the hundreds of posts on the internet (including their own support forum) they have a manufacturing problem which is causing an abnormal number of their HDTV glass panels to crack.

Remember: DO NOT accept out-of-warranty an excuse to not repair your defective unit. We all know Samsung have a manufacturing problem. So do they. TV's are NOT supposed to crack and die from your just watching them.

Post back you results and any questions you may have.

Good luck.

Hi Samsung_HD_tech:

I guess it has been almost a month of PAINFUL followup with Samsung and there has been no action. My last call with them was again last week when they said I will hear back from the dispatch.

Let me know where we stand else I will have to take another step now.

Reply 29 : Internal Crack on my TV panel

Sachinharsh,

I've sent up a second request. My advice is to call 800-SAMSUNG and ask to be escalated to someone who can assist further with this. Unfortunately, I'm not a member of service, but I do what I can to assist people, so hopefully we can find a resolution.

can't autoactivate fonts in InDesign CS4

Hi,

All our designers have been using Lintotype Font Explorer X v1.2.3 with CS2 through to CS4.
It's free and autoactivates fonts for InDesign excellently.
However, Lintotype stopped developing the free version of FEX and created FEX Pro. This included autoactivation plugins for CS4.The free version of FEX did not have plugins for CS4.
I browsed the resource contents of FEX Pro and found the CS4 plugs, copied the one for Indesign CS4 into the IDCS4 Plug-Ins folder. Voila ! font autoactivation now works in IDCS4 with the free version of FEX. This works a treat UNLESS you log onto the Mac using a network account. Logging in using local account works fine.
With an AD bound Mac, logging onto the network account and opening an Indesign CS4 documents causes InDesign CS4 to close partway through opening the document. No error is displayed. I found it is related to the FEX CS4 plug-in as when this is removed from the plugins folder the document opens OK albeit without the fonts.
When you attempt to open the Indesign doc for the 2nd time, InDesign attempts to recover it.
I opened up the Console when this occured and there was an entry saying soething about semaphore, access denied etc etc

Does anybody else here use Linotype Font Explorer X with Adobe CS4 ?

Reply 1 : can't autoactivate fonts in InDesign CS4

1. Download the Fontexplorer Pro version; open the image
2. Choose view package and go to Resources, Plugins
3. Get the CS4 plugins and copy them to your desktop. (.zip files)
4. Now unmount & throw the pro-version away
5. Unpack the zipped files and put the plugins in the program-plugin-folders
6. Restart Linotype and your other to-be-font-managed-programs and you have it all working

Cannot Attach Files in Hotmail

I work in a small office, and one of our agents is having trouble with attaching files in Hotmail in IE. Attachments work just fine in Firefox.

We've had this problem before on another computer, and we took it to a shop to get checked out. The tech said that he disabled an IE add on, and now it works. Unfortunately, he didn't remember which add on it was. I've tried disabling a few, but I haven't had much luck.

Last week, I restored his computer to factory settings because his computer was not functioning. .EXE files would not run. He is an older gentleman and clicks and opens everything. He downloads "free" stuff all the time and doesn't realize all the viruses and spyware that he allows to collect on his computer. Anyways, Windows has updated numerous times in the past few days. Everything seems to be up and running normal.

I have also restored IE8 back to factory settings.

Our agent is using a Dell Inspiron Desktop with Windows Vista and IE8.

When trying to attach an attachment in Hotmail, the attachment link is "disabled." It is un-clickable. It's just text. When you hover over the word "Attachment", it says ;Javascript;

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Difference between processors, and how to choose.

Hi,

I am thinking about getting a new laptop. I see a few that I like, but they have different processors. One has an i3 processor and the other has an i5. I go to the intel site and look up both. They both run about the same speed and have the same amount of threading. So my question is, how should I go about choosing between the two processors? Lets assume that on an average day I will be watching/editing videos, surfing the web, and attending classes online.

Reply 1 : Difference between processors, and how to choose.

See the difference in the links below. (Remember, i5's can be dual core or quad core, and as such, they vary in performance.):

How to fix very-minimized window?

I don't know what I did in IE8 (I think I accidentally clicked "cascade windows") to create this problem: When I launch IE, I get a very-minimized window instead of the usual maximized window. I also get a very-minimized window when I click a link which opens in a new window.

I played with Internet Options, but couldn't fix the problem.

I finally downloaded IE9, hoping this would fix the problem. However, the problem remains.

Does someone know how to fix it?

Help with choosing the right motherboard

hi, just a quick question about LGA775 socket motherboard.

I need to buy a new one, as the old one (P5E3) is having issues, but don't want to change the socket, as my CPU is Q9650 and is sufficient.

So the only requirements are LGA socket 775, DDR3 support in 4 slots, price around 80 EUR/ 70 GBP and brand 99% asus, but would consider Gigabyte too.

so far I found this: ASUS P5P43TD/USB3 (90-MIBA25-G0EAY0GZ)

http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=os2nODmMKgOFPCBt

it retails for 77 EUR new.

This is my choice at the moment, so wanted to ask if there's anything better out there that you'd recommend instead.

thanks

Program that hides your screen? (Latitude)

I know that you have this option with dell Control Point where you can only view the screen from straight on.

I need something for use on the plane; can I install this piece of DCP alone and/or is there a program that I can buy that does this for me?

HP Pavillion 14" 1210NR Weight

Hello,

I was looking on Amazon at some laptops and was impressed by the specs of the HP 14-1210NR and the build quality got top notch reviews, but I saw something very alarming: Amazon says the laptop weighs an unbelievable 11 pounds.

Can anyone confirm or deny this? A little on the heavy side doesn't bother me, but that sounds outrageous.

Yeah, I dont know why amazon only list the shipping weight. The laptop with the battery in should weigh in ~5.5lb which is average for the 14" form factor.

Shipping Weight: 11.6 pounds

Product Dimensions- 17 x 6.4 x 13 inches ; 11 pounds

That fact that they differentiated and that the shipping weight was slightly more concerned me.

Upgrade my CPU? VPC-EA series

Probably a very tedious question for you guys, but.......

So I'm one of those cheapskate VAIO owners who only jumped in when the E series came around. I got a very good deal on a small EA series with Blu-Ray burner. However the CPU is a bit of a donkey (dual core P6100, 2GHz).

I missed a mobile i5-540 on Ebay the other day, and was wondering if it would have worked (it's the same pin layout so I'm sure it will fit), and if it's a big challenge?

Thanks for any info

Calling all Dell Vostro 1720 users out there

Good day to you all.

I would like to ask all Dell Vostro 1720 owners out there some questions, particularly those who have their units equipped with the nvidia 9600m gs gpu.

How is the machine holding up after all these years? Is the build quality top notch?

Also, are there any overheating problems for the 9600m gs?

Last but not least, is the 9600m gs affected by the nvidia defective gpus issue?

Thanks.

Reply 1 : Calling all Dell Vostro 1720 users out there

9600M GS is based off G96M core and should not be affected by the faulty bump material found in the defective Nvidia chips.

ok solved removed again drivers in save mode and reinstall

Reply 3 : problems with new video driver 11.4

This problem seems to happen when a driver sweeper is used. It happened to me and I did a bunch of reading, tried multiple things and nothing worked. I finally used the system restore, went back to a date prior to the removal of the drivers and was then able to do the reinstall.

Reply 4 : problems with new video driver 11.4

Don't worry about CCC not showing the new version it's a known bug that has been in existance for a very long time. NEVER EVER use driver sweeper to remove ATI drivers.

I use it everytime and no such problem here.. Happened once but not after that with 11 series drivers.

I've used it every time (at least 5 times now) and every upgrade has gone without a hitch. As long as you use it right, it's fine to use.

RYRL!?!?!! what is your source???. I always clean the leftover ati files with driver sweeper and never had the version bug. Here is what can I read from my unit with 11.4 preview installed on it:

Switched to HDMI, very strage.

Hello, I own a Hanspree 23" monitor which is capable of HDMI and VGA input. My VGA cable finally gave out, so I ordered an HDMI to DVI cable (I have a GTX 260 which doesn't have HDMI). Now there is a very strange problem. The whites seem washed out, and the blacks appear grey. I had absolutely no problem over VGA. I've been attempting to fix it by adjusting the settings in the Nvidia control panel, but the problem still exists. This problem is about to drive me crazy. Any help would be much appreciated.

Reply 1 : Switched to HDMI, very strage.

Have you considered that either the HDMI cable or adapter may be bad? Or even that the HDMI port on the monitor is defective?

To save a little money, I'd hit Monoprice.com and order a new HDMI cable, adapter, and even a VGA cable as a backup. Never made use of it, but Monoprice appears to have a pretty liberal return policy with an advertised no restocking fee. You probably eat return shipping costs, but not a bad deal overall IMO.

Reply 2 : Switched to HDMI, very strage.

That was one of the first things I considered. I took my monitor into my living room and plugged it into my home theater PC. It worked like a charm. I'm probably just gonna order a new cable. I suppose I should have expected such from such a cheap cable ($1).

Tracking a desktop's internal hardware

I remember a while back I stumbled upon a thread (or maybe it was myself who made the thread, I don't remember) where the subject of changing RAM came up. Someone posted a link to a very useful site that remotely scans your computer and tells you how many internal ports you have, which of those ports are occupied, and what exactly is occupying them.

This might have only been for RAM, I don't remember, but I'd like one that can also scan for those... "conventional PCI" things. The slots that you put graphic cards into. I'm looking to install a bluetooth/wifi card and I'd like some detail on the ports I have. I'm hoping I can accurately describe my computer's internals to the computer store so that I don't have to pay to have them install it all (which is usually an extra 50 bucks in my experience).

Reply 1 : Tracking a desktop's internal hardware

Forgot to ask the actual question, lol.

If someone knows just what that site was (or have something that does a similar job) could you please post the link here?

Siw 2010 "without" the installer.

Download to some temp area....scan it...run it.
See if it gives you what you want.

I stick the thing on optical and park it in a draw.

When I want to use it I just run it off the optical.

Samsung BD-C5500 bluray player internet@tv problem

Hi,
I recently purchased the BD-C5500 and have it connected to my Samsung tv via HDMI cable. The player is wired to my modem with an ethernet cable that goes from modem to Netgear WPN824v3 wireless router to the player. When I comleted the inital setup and choose the auto function for connecting to my network I receive no errors - MAC address, IP Address/Subnet Mask/Gateway/DNS, Gateway Ping, and Internet Server Test all show checks when completing the setup. However, when I exit the setup and try to activate my Internet@tv, I receive the following message, "No signal, Check connected device power, cable connections, and source selection." The player will play discs fine. My internet provider is mediacom. If you have any advice on this I would greatly appreciate it! I miss Netflix!-Thanks.

Problems out of the box.

Ok so i decided and got this cool machine although i encountered some problems out of the box.

1) Webcam do not work

2) Led manager do not work (tried reinstaling utility form disk and downloaded one. still no succes)

3) Not really a big issue but the touch button which turn on and turn off led lights kinda dimly blink all the time. Dont know if it can lead to bigger issues.

Thanks

Update: ok led problem solved. 2 to go.

Reply 1 : Problems out of the box.

The machine doesn't come with any webcam software. What are you using to see if its working?

Reply 2 : Problems out of the box.

I used skype. anyway I fixed the webcam problem. Just wondering if any of you guys have dimly light up touch button. its doesnt botter me very much (you can barely see it) but i just wondering if it can lead to any further hardware issues

Reply 3 : Problems out of the box.

You have to turn on the web cam with the hot key. FN + F6 will start the web cam. As for the flicky touch button light, go to MSI web site and look on there and see if its something they talk about.

Reply 4 : Problems out of the box.

My LED Touch button is dimly lighted up yes. Have had it for months now, no worries. It doesn't blink though, but it's abit lit up yes.

Reply 5 : Problems out of the box.

yeh number 3 isnt a problem if its just dimly lit

if it blinks however...

Asus G2P and DL burning

I did a search with G2P and DL and nothing came up but what I want to ask is can I burn a DL with this Asus G2P?

I bought this G2P used just recently and on the net I have seen some stats stating the drive is DL burning capable.

I just like to know if thats a fact or not. This G2P (OS=XP) was originally purchased in Toronto

You should check for the optical drive model name in device manager and search the drive specifications:

yes I did that, It is indeed an LG drive (HL-DT-ST-DVDRAM GSA-T10N)

While googling I found an excellent program - DVD Identifier

Its free and it identifies the drive plus it identifies what formats the drive can read and write.

Samsung Blu Ray Player Model BD-P1600-Firmware Upgrade Fail

I am ready to scream! I just upgraded the Firmware on the above mentioned Blu Ray Player and now it won't play any DVD or Blu Ray Disc. I just get the LOAD, MENU and it kind of sits there doing nothing, then an error on the tv saying it can't play the disc. Any disc...none that it played previously, nothing. So I go looking on the internet to find out what the problem is. Only to find about a million other people that enjoyed the same problem....buy a dvd player and then the very company you purchased it from urges you repeatedly when you turn it on, to upgrade the player with their firmware. You do what they tell you to do, and it renders your player JUNK! NICE SCAM SAMSUNG!!!

Reply 1 : Samsung Blu Ray Player Model BD-P1600-Firmware Upgrade Fail

dlindsay2000,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having this issue with your Blu-Ray player.

Try resetting the unit by, with the unit on, press and hold the FF>> button. The unit will reinitialize the last loaded firmware, which should get functionality back to your player. If that doesn't work, additional troubleshooting may also be available at 800-SAMSUNG.

I apologize for the inconvenience, but hopefully, this will help resolve the issue.

Reply 2 : Samsung Blu Ray Player Model BD-P1600-Firmware Upgrade Fail

Just as the other posters have said this RESET fix, didn't work. Of course once you replace your firmware with another there's not much chance the old firmware can be reset. Considering a firmware update is a reprogramming of the machine. What else ya got Samsung? I already called the 1-800 number, they don't have a fix for this either. Just the pat answer "if this doesn't work you must need service"...funny how no one needed service until the firmware upgrade! I have been searching to see if there's a class action against Samsung for this, considering it happens to 99% of the people that bought these machines. This is just really an amazing trick Samsung is pulling....you either pay for Samsung Tech support to install the old firmware, or you buy a new DVD player. Those are the choices? Not cool...

Reply 3 : Samsung Blu Ray Player Model BD-P1600-Firmware Upgrade Fail

I have learned the hard way that you never upgrade the firmware with samsung products. I hope the best for you, it took months to get mine fixed on the last firmware update I did.

Reply 4 : Samsung Blu Ray Player Model BD-P1600-Firmware Upgrade Fail

You know this doesn't work if you "upgraded" the firmware. Apologies from you are great, but are Samsung actually going to fix or replace machines they broke?

Reply 5 : Samsung Blu Ray Player Model BD-P1600-Firmware Upgrade Fail

Actually I think it goes to prove just how inept their tech people are. I don't think they're intelligent enough to pull off a scam like this. It may appear this way, but in reality they are stumped! While everyone else can get it right, i.e. Panasonic, Sony, etc., Samsungs' tech side is just not capable or smart enough to fix the issue.
I've owned my BD-P 1600 for two years now, purchased upon my return from Iraq. I only watched a handful of Blu-ray movies on it prior to the firmware updates. Since them I haven't been able to watch a single Blu-ray movie on it. I can't rest it either, so there it sits as a testament on a product to never purchase again. Maybe in a 1000 years an advanced race will find it and say how antiquated it was for its time!
I will say though, I own a samsung refrigerator and it Rocks! As fast as entertainment, I'll stick to my 7.1 bluray Panasonic system, Awesome video and sound.

Reply 6 : Samsung Blu Ray Player Model BD-P1600-Firmware Upgrade Fail

jjharrell,

If resetting the unit doesn't fix it, call and get a transaction number and post it here. I've helped a number of people get their units repaired if the firmware update causes an issue. There are posts here noting that the reset options I've posted work. It does for some, and not for everybody.

Don't let your unit sit there as a testament. Call up, explain that it bricked due to a firmware update. If they aren't able to assist, ask for the transaction number for your call and post it here. I'll be happy to have a manager review the situation.

I do appreciate the kind words on the refrigerator, but let's see if we can get your Blu-Ray situation reviewed, too.

I need a good processor for gaming

I want to upgrade my current processor but I'm not sure what to buy. I want a good and not over-priced processor for games like World of Warcraft and Starcraft and basically any game. I always notice this input lag with games and the motion is not so smooth. I'm not sure if the problem is caused by my graphic card or my processor. Please help!

Here are my some info about my PC:

OS Name: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate
System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
System Model: EP41T-UD3L
System Type: x64-based PC
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz, 3000 Mhz, 1 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s)
Installed Memory (RAM): 4.00 GB
Graphic Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT-220 2048MB (3801MB as shown in the dxdiag interface)

Reply 1 : I need a good processor for gaming

Well, you're going to be limited by what your motherboard will accept, and since you have a P4, that means you're pretty much screwed on anything more recent like say a Core 2 Duo unless you replace the motherboard and likely the RAM as well. If your video card is AGP, then that will have to go too.

At the end of the day, you may as well just buy a new PC, because you'll be building the better part of one anyway to upgrade that thing.

Reply 2 : I need a good processor for gaming

You are pressing the limits of this machine and the tech available you can plug into this board.

Your choice of video card was some value unit that would allow you to run most things but you may want to try a much higher end GPU in the 200+ buck region.
Bob

Reply 3 : I need a good processor for gaming

You have a P4 current cpu, that suggests that mtrbd. won't support any type of multiple-core cpu which is what you will need. Get the new mtrbd. and hope everything else will swap over. I suggest you visit and review the specs of "gaming vendors" like IBuyPower, Alienware, CyberPower, Velicity Power, etc. or similar and check what they offer. Buy, what seems to fit wallet and your needs. Beware, if you build, take into consideration all aspects of the build, but pay attention to cooling, PSU and case too. IMHO, everything of your old PC will swap over except maybe video card if AGP. Now, the next step in good gaming is video so buy the best you can afford. I won't go into any models or what to buy because, any gamer is *NEVER* happy with the gosh darnest PC they ever get, they want more. happy

DLNA server (Samsung PC Share manager) and Codec's

I've recently purchased a new Samsung TV and been viewing content from both a USB stick and via DLNA. The issue I have found is that more formats are supported via the USB stick than via DLNA.

I take it this is down to the limited number of codec's available on the DLNA server
(Samsung PC Share manager)?

If so:

Is there any way to add additional codec's to the server?
Is there a new version of the server soon to be available to support all the formats the TV can support?
Is there a better DLNA server which can be recommended?

Andrew

Reply 1 : DLNA server (Samsung PC Share manager) and Codec's

http://www.serviio.org/ Is a better option than samsungs solution in my opinion. As supported formats go, that is down to the mediaplayer in the TV. As to why USB is better supported, I don't know. Do you have the latest version of firmware for your TV?

Reply 2 : DLNA server (Samsung PC Share manager) and Codec's

I'm looking at serviio

The second part of you reply is what i am asking. The TV (fully patched) and has better codecs support than the samsung PC share manager. I believe that there are missing codecs from the samsung pc share manager, can any one confirm this and when updaes will be available or work around to add additional codecs

Reply 3 : DLNA server (Samsung PC Share manager) and Codec's

And not meaning to upset anyone, the responses so far tell us these things are not like PCs. That is, no way to install codecs.

This is why many look at other DLNA servers like servio and Tversity.

is to have your "OE Compacting" reset in the Registry by visiting the Kelly's Korner web site and downloading the file identified as #367 - OE - Reset Compact Check Count to 0 - Undo. When this file is downloaded to a favorite place on your hard drive simply double-click the file and this file will reset the prompt for compacting OE to zero (0).

The type is REG_Dword and the value of Data consists of something similar to 0x00000000 (0) -- where as the numeric number inside the parenthesis increase as you use OE and the last two values of the first section also increases but not with the same numeric character.

Please look at the Data value to see if the file you ran did the job it was intended:

1. Click Start, Run, type regedit, and then press Enter.

Note: Using the address at the start of this message click the Plus box in front of HKEY_CURRENT_USER to expand it and continue clicking/expanding appropriate folders (each word preceded by a backslash in that address BUT you may note that the long alphanumeric number I gave you above is different that your's -- but it doesn't matter as long as you get to that last subject) until reaching the last "Compact Check Count" which will be in the right window.

2. Look at the Data value for Compact Check Count (that figure inside the parenthesis) and tell me what it is please.

3. Click File, Exit in the toolbar to close and exit the session without having made any changes

I have 5 Identities (diff. aliases I have used) the value in the first of these the identity is just a string of 000's and in parenthesis is (40) - the other that follow are (14) (14) (0) (5)

Reply 6 : Can't open Outlook Express

the other three have not reached 100 yet so it is apparent that either OE has become corrupted or the identity you're opening OE with has - it's either or. You state in the original message that this is an XP computer but do not state what service packs to XP or updates to OE have been installed. So . . .

1. Compacting all folders in OE frequently repairs mild corruption and surprisingly enough as ironic as it seems, the compaction process itself has also been implicated in causing corruption. Before WinXP SP2, OE was configured by default to compact files automatically after inactive for some minutes. However, although OE might have been inactive, the same could not always be said for other programs being used when compaction began. On some systems, particularly those with limited amounts of RAM or slow processors, the sudden drain on computer resources sometimes caused anomalies that too often damage the DBX file(s).

2. It is largely for this reason that the background compaction feature was removed from WinXP SP2. OE will now compact automatically only after opening and closing 100 times. It will do so not in the background, when you might be busy doing other things on the computer, but rather when the option is approved. Do not cancel the process, nor use your computer until it is finished. For the reason mention previously, you should still compact all folders on a regular basis based on volumns of mail received and as mentioned here. You should disable the background compaction (Click Tools, Options, Maintenance, click to clear the checkbox for Compact messages automatically in the background", and then click OK) when using systems prior to SP2, "File Corruption in Outlook Express."

3. Supplemental reading:

a. "Update for Outlook Express 6.0 on Microsoft Windows XP (KB918766)."

Note: After you install this update or your system is patched with SP3, a backup copy of the .dbx file is created every time compacting is performed. After the database is successfully compacted, the backup copy of the .dbx file is moved to the recycle bin. Should you note problems with missing e-mail or mail boxes afterwards, consider this link for restoring mail from the Recycler: "Why You Should Let Outlook Express Compact Messages When It Asks You."

b. "The Outlook Express Store Folder."

4. Email Errors "Put Your Correspondence Back On The Correct Route".

You should follow the instruction given by Coryphaeus to try repairing OE first. It is also possible that you have corruption of you user profile and may have to create a new one: "How to Copy User Data to a New User Profile (Q811151)."

My laptop crashed oddly.

I have a HP dv6000 series Windows Vista Laptop. I was using it Monday night to type an email to a friend and it suddenly died. I tried to reboot it, but it will not even turn on completely.

When I try to start it up, it will start the boot process and then shut down. it will then repeat until i remove the power supply.

I have never seen anything like this before and am worried.

If anyone has any idea what caused this, please post a reply.

You can try the usual generic reset, be sure to get your canned air and shoot a blast of air (short please) in the vents then try again.

Your files are almost always salvaged by putting the laptop drive in some USB case but let's see if the usual helps.

Satellite L44D-S5976 cpu upgrade

hey everyone...

A friend of mine bought this laptop with sempron SI-42 at walmart for 400 bucks and

cpu die on it so I'm in ebay looking for a replacement for him, I was wondering

I found AMD Turion 64 X2 RM-72 TMRM72DAM22GG has same code name and similar spec as sempron SI-42 , do you think this laptop can handle the dual core?

Reply 1 : Satellite L44D-S5976 cpu upgrade

Well I bought the CPU TMRM72DAM22GG for 45 bucks in ebay and run flawless on this laptop... so if anyone owns Toshiba Satellite L455D it does support dual core and they sell this laptops at wal-mart for 400 bucks with a low end cpu, windows 7 when from 3.3 to 4 hehe with this upgrade and some small part changes too...

just be safe side make sure match it with Code Name "Griffin" and similar spec just in case bios doesn't have support for different kind of dual cores...

Reply 2 : Satellite L44D-S5976 cpu upgrade

I just bought this notebook myself about a week ago. Your post is the only thing I've found online so far regarding upgrading the processor. (Other than a post on Toshiba's website where a staff member claims it isn't possible.)

Just a couple questions:

Does the bios/OS recognize the new proc as a Turion?

What exactly do you have to remove to access the motherboard?

How is the proc attached to the motherboard?

Reply 3 : Satellite L44D-S5976 cpu upgrade

I've bought two Turion RM-72 CPUs to make this upgrade (I have the same laptop). I found a tutorial here and followed each step word for word. Had no problem taking apart the laptop, installing the CPU or anything, but this upgrade did Not work for me. The first time I put it in, it actually did work somewhat for a few days but my computer would crash frequently. I downloaded speedfan and saw that my CPU temperature was waaayy too high. I bought a cooling pad off amazon but by the time it arrived, my laptop wouldn't even post with the new CPU. The Sempron still worked flawlessly.

I figured maybe the heat fried the CPU, so about a month ago I bought another off ebay. After putting in the new CPU, sadly the laptop still would not boot. So this upgrade cost me over $100 between the two Turions and the cooling pad, and I basically just bought a lesson. I learned not to tamper with things I don't know enough about based on one tutorial on the internet.

If you have a PS3, you can get the original PSX version for like $10-$20 via the PlayStation Network store. The original game was 3 CDs long, so plan on about a 1.4GB download for the entire game. And sadly, it's a literal port to the PS3, including the complete and total lack of any analog control support.

FFVIII and XI are up there too if you want to relive the PSX classics.

These days, Steam is probably the best bet for PC games, and the Xbox Live Network and PlayStation Network have a whole lot of older games you can buy and download. Nintendo too. If you go to just about any store, you can find Atari and Sega classic compilation discs.

BIOS does not recognize hard disks

I recently built a new computer. I have a Gigabyte X58USB3.0 motherboard with four SATA devices connected to it; three hard drives and one dvd-rom drive.

BIOS recognizes one hard drive and the dvd drive but it does not recognize the other two hard drives. One hard drive is a Seagate LP 2TB, which I have heard frequently arrives DOA. This is the first time I have used it so I have no confirmation that it is a good drive. It's receiving power and I can tell that it is running, however BIOS does not recognize it. The other hard drive is from my old computer and it is an IDE drive with an IDE/SATA adapter. It's possible that the adapter doesn't work and that's why BIOS does not recognize it.

I have tried reinstalling the chipset driver, running disk management in Windows 7, going through the BIOS but I can never find these two drives. Any ideas?

and make sure the jumpers are set properly on the IDE drive. You should use an 80 conductor cable and the cable select option for the jumper. Some MB ports that are designed for optional RAID use can cause the issue you see as these will be an"either/or"
configuration. This means you use either SATA or IDE but cannot use both at the same time.

Please help

Hi I have a samsung 50" plasma pn50c450b1d model. I updated the firmware from 1.004 to 1.008, and when the installer got to 99% it said update failed, but after it showed that message it didn't restart and let me continue watching tv for about 2 hours I then turned off my tv and went to bed, waking up the nextmorning tried the remote nothing, power buttons nothing, when I unplug it and plug it back in it turns on for about 10 seconds then turns off, all buttons unresponsive, ive called samsung and I'm expecting a call from a technician, any advice?

xfluffheadx,

If you can power on the TV, press and hold the EXIT button for 15 seconds. If you're able to do it before it powers off, you may be able to reset the television to the original state.

Waiting for a technician inspect the unit is probably the best option, though.

Where's the high nit screen on the T420/520?

Man I was really hoping to upgrade to one of these bad boys but I do a lot of work outside and need a high nit screen. Anyone know why they left it out or if it will be added later as an option? I do a lot of work outside (nothing crazy) and really like having the option for a brighter screen. Currently have the Dell e6400atg with the 720nit (or whatever it is) and it works awesome. Would love to have something similar.

Never heard of them. I wouldn't trust my life to riding on no-name tires just to save a couple bucks.

To put things into perspective, it's the only point at which your car makes contact with the road.

Never heard of Durun myself.

My pop says "only buy Cooper tires" but they don't seem to have a lot of variety for our size. A winter one, a summer one, and a luxury one.

I see these all over kijiji in the toronto area... I'm thinking probably cheaply made, low quality chinese tires. Then again that's probably how Kumho, Falken and Nexen started.

Hard to say with Chinese manufactured tires - the biggest issue I see is inconsistent quality control. Might crank out a couple good batches, with some poor ones. As for this brand, I have not run across them in the US, but I have heard of the parent company. Little shady, as they say meets US DOT regs, but don't provide a UTQG rating for their tires. Granted, this is not an absolute number, but it gives you some idea of what the tire should be capable of.

Lot of the testing they do on the tires is something that every tire manufacturer does anyways. Problem is that will only catch gross manufacturing defects. Doesn't have any bearing on how well the tire performs.

Another good example is Ling Long tire manufacturer. They are supposed to be a premium performance tire manufacturer in China. Car and Driver did a test with a set of their tires which were an almost exact tread copy of a Yokohama tire they tested. The Ling Long tire showed some of the worst traction and handling performance they've every recorded. The authors even commented that the tires felt like they were made of concrete, not rubber - just zero grip. Some of the skidpad and braking results were shocking, even the tires off a lawnmower could match those numbers. Only upside was the price - up to 30% less expensive than the next tire.

I'm with the others here - difference in price, even if they were "free", could get me to run those tires. Safety first, if not for yourself, then for others on the road.
