can't autoactivate fonts in InDesign CS4

Hi,

All our designers have been using Lintotype Font Explorer X v1.2.3 with CS2 through to CS4.
It's free and autoactivates fonts for InDesign excellently.
However, Lintotype stopped developing the free version of FEX and created FEX Pro. This included autoactivation plugins for CS4.The free version of FEX did not have plugins for CS4.
I browsed the resource contents of FEX Pro and found the CS4 plugs, copied the one for Indesign CS4 into the IDCS4 Plug-Ins folder. Voila ! font autoactivation now works in IDCS4 with the free version of FEX. This works a treat UNLESS you log onto the Mac using a network account. Logging in using local account works fine.
With an AD bound Mac, logging onto the network account and opening an Indesign CS4 documents causes InDesign CS4 to close partway through opening the document. No error is displayed. I found it is related to the FEX CS4 plug-in as when this is removed from the plugins folder the document opens OK albeit without the fonts.
When you attempt to open the Indesign doc for the 2nd time, InDesign attempts to recover it.
I opened up the Console when this occured and there was an entry saying soething about semaphore, access denied etc etc

Does anybody else here use Linotype Font Explorer X with Adobe CS4 ?

Reply 1 : can't autoactivate fonts in InDesign CS4

1. Download the Fontexplorer Pro version; open the image
2. Choose view package and go to Resources, Plugins
3. Get the CS4 plugins and copy them to your desktop. (.zip files)
4. Now unmount & throw the pro-version away
5. Unpack the zipped files and put the plugins in the program-plugin-folders
6. Restart Linotype and your other to-be-font-managed-programs and you have it all working
